A Place You Can't Escape

25” x 25 “ Hand-drawn Gel and Ink on Digital Print

WINNER OF 2019 PROMOWEST LIVE ART COMPETITION

This piece reflects on the artists perception of his own reality; Being trapped in a beautiful abyss of student debt and financial struggle, which not even death can release him. The sharp, jagged rocks that seem to go on forever downwards, suffocate any hope of ever escaping. The dream of a brighter future waning on the fragmented light of the same obstacles that imprison him. For what once was thought to be an escape from this place was actually that which brought you here in the first place. Up is down, down is up. Hope is a prison in a place you can't escape.

Outrage Introspective

Anger is like a torch that burns from both ends. It will destroy everything around it and it will destroy the one whom cannot let go of it.

Running Riot

Pardon the interruption but I need air some thoughts I’ve had with making this art piece:

I know people don’t like to get political but the lack of love these days is upsetting. The lack of unity these days is troubling. The lack of justice for all is maddening. The absence of meaningful dialogue sows deeper the seeds of discourse and upheaval.

Count your blessings. Lucky is the person who can choose to be political or not. Others less fortunate cannot.

To condemn the riots but not their cause is the language of the oppressor. The Truth is we should all be running riot over the lack of justice in the wake of police brutality. We should be running riot in the presence of fear mongering political platforms. We as Americans, as human beings, should and need to demand better. Or we can all avoid the tough conversations, sing a happy song and pretend everything is fine while the innocent continue to die. One day the wolf might be at your door and you’ll wonder why you’ve been silent for so long.

If you only get one thing out of my art piece I hope it’s realizing my art is a call for action.

A Sea of Troubles Lies Between Us

23” x 15” Glitch Drawing

Full translation of writing in box: “A sea of troubles lies between us. However, the most difficult path leads to the most beautiful places.”

This art piece is supposed to be an olive branch, acknowledging the atrocities the United States and Japan enacted upon one another in the past while stating that we are capable of being great friends as well. End the hate and resentment that dehumanizes one another. What has happened in the past is regrettably irreversible but just as the sun rises each morning and dawns a new day we too can start fresh and create a future of fellowship. Time won’t heal all wounds, but love will.

Chief Blue Jacket

48” x 12” Glitch Drawing

WINNER OF 2019 ARTPOP STREET GALLERY, COLUMBUS, OH

"Chief Blue Jacket" is a glitch drawing of the famous Shawnee War Chief, Wayapiersenwah, nicknamed "Blue Jacket".  He was the predecessor of the famous Shawnee leader, Tecumseh and was charged with the defense of Shawnee lands in the Ohio Country.  He was a true native hero of Ohio and was willing to fight for his home and his people.  Most of the history of Ohio and the Americas at large have been lost to a bloody history of war and strife.  Without history it is impossible to know who we once were and ultimately know who we are today.  Without history we have no identity, no culture and are destined to be adaptations of another culture.  This piece of art is dedicated to Ohio’s forgotten past and the brave people that made and continue to make this land reverent; for the land is the one true, tangible thing that connects us to our lost history and we owe it to ourselves to celebrate it.

Portrait of Chief Blue Jacket

20" x 10" Glitch Drawing - Using the profile of Chief Blue Jacket from my original drawing I created a portrait view of the Native American war chief that is flat so you can see all sides of his face at once similar to a cubist's portrait. This image was on display on the world-class public interactive art sculpture, "As We Are" at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio. It is rare to see his face upon the sculpture.

I have made a secondary logo, a mascot logo if you will, to be a bit more like a personification of my art yet retaining my aesthetic with my art and logo. I chose a thunderbird for a multitude of reasons but being an American I want to pay tribute to my nations native heritage.
